We wanted to remind employers that starting April 1, 2024, California fast-food workers must be paid at least $20 per hour. This was reported by Vensure in a previous update, which you can read below:
Starting April 1, 2024, California’s new fast-food minimum wage law will require managers at fast-food restaurants to earn at least $83,200 per year ($6,933.33 per month) to maintain exempt status. This law impacts both nonexempt worker wages and the exempt salary threshold for managers, as employees under the “white collar” exemptions must earn at least twice the state minimum wage for full-time employment.
Assuming 52 weeks in a year and a 5-day workweek, the weekly minimum pay must be $320, and the hourly rate would be $40.
Employers should also consider that for an exempt employee to be considered exempt, they must also comply with the duties test for the exempt categories.
