As a reminder for employers in Washington, D.C., the employer contribution rate for Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) will remain at 0.75% throughout 2025. Unlike last year’s mid-year changes, the rate is stable this year. PFML contributions are due quarterly, with the second quarter payment deadline on July 31, 2025.
Upcoming Change to Unemployment Benefits: Employers should also be aware that the maximum weekly unemployment insurance benefit in D.C. is expected to increase from $1,153 effective October 1, 2025, in alignment with the minimum wage increase to $17.95 on July 1, 2025. The D.C. Department of Employment Services will announce the exact new benefit amount.
